A new technique for identification of eighteen flutter derivatives using a three-degree-of-freedom section model

چکیده
The prediction of flutter instability is of major concern for design of flexible structures. This necessitates the identification of aeroelastic parameters, known as flutter derivatives from wind tunnel experiments. The extraction of flutter derivatives becomes more challenging when the number of degrees of freedom (DOF) increases from two to three. Since the work in the field of identifying all 18 flutter derivatives has been limited, it has motivated the development of a new system identification method (iterative least squares method or ILS method) to efficiently extract the flutter derivatives using a section model suspended by a three-DOF elastic suspension system. The accuracy of a particular flutter derivative was determined by comparing the results obtained from all possible DOF combinations. 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Efficacy of the Implied Approximation in the Identification of Flutter Derivatives
Structural motion induced aerodynamic forces on bridges are customarily characterized in terms of flutter derivatives. Considerable effort has been extended to refine the procedure to identify flutter derivatives of bridge decks using spring-suspended twodegree-of-freedom bridge deck section models in wind tunnels. In this context, techniques and implied approximations employed in the literatur...
متن کاملEvaluation of 2-D Aeroelastic Models Based on Indicial Aerodynamic Theory and Vortex Lattice Method in Flutter and Gust Response Determination
Two 2-D aeroelastic models are presented here to determine instability boundary (flutter speed) and gust response of a typical section airfoil with degrees of freedom in pitch and plunge directions. To build these 2-D aeroelastic models, two different aerodynamic theories including Indicial Aerodynamic Theory and Vortex Lattice Method (VLM) have been employed. Also, a 3-D aeroelastic framework ...
متن کاملPareto Optimization of a Two-degree of Freedom Passive Linear Suspension Using a New Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (TECHNICAL NOTE)
The primary function of a suspension system of a vehicle is to isolate the road excitations experienced by the tires from being transmitted to the passengers. In this paper, we formulate an optimal vehicle suspension design problem with the quarter-car vehicle dynamic model. A new multi-objective genetic algorithm is used for Pareto optimization of a two-degree of freedom vehicle vibration mode...
متن کاملA method for identification of non-linear multi-degree-of-freedom systems
System identification methods for non-linear aeroelastic systems could find uses in many aeroelastic applications such as validating finite element models and tracking the stability of aircraft during flight flutter testing. The effectiveness of existing non-linear system identification techniques is limited by various factors such as the complexity of the system under investigation and the typ...
متن کاملMechanical System Modelling of Robot Dynamics Using a Mass/Pulley Model
The well-known electro-mechanical analogy that equates current, voltage, resistance, inductance and capacitance to force, velocity, damping, spring constant and mass has a shortcoming in that mass can only be used to simulate a capacitor which has one terminal connected to ground. A new model that was previously proposed by the authors that combines a mass with a pulley (MP) is shown to simulat...
